Name: Ampara
Age: 22
Rank: Senior Weyrwoman
Firelizards: Blue Arctos and Ace
Physical Appearance: Ampara stands at an average Pernese height, and stays fit and slender. Despite the fact she has to devote a good portion of time being in the office, especially when things are more hectic than usual, she leads wing practice and tries to find other ways to be active even if it’s only pouring on the elbow grease while diligently oiling her dragon’s hide. Her hair is a darker auburn, leaning towards more red than brown. Ampara’s eyes are a clear, bright green like leaves in the summer, always shining with optimism and anticipation of coming challenges. As a weyrwoman a certain amount of decorum is either expected or proscribed, but Ampara tries to toss it aside or break down barriers when she can. She’s often found in her riding gear and seen running around working on something or other leaving little time for finery or frippery, calling on it when she decides, rarely, she needs a change of pace or out of express necessity. Refusing to keep her hair any kind of short, Ampara is deceivingly feminine and youthful in her appearance at times; however, she isn’t to be underestimated. She will go the distance, and go at things just as hard and fast if not harder and faster than her colleagues. Age has also proven to be no issue as she manages the weyr very well so far in her career as weyrwoman. She boldly perseveres with a cheery attitude, and good (if sometimes sarcastic and cheeky) sense of humor.
Personality Characteristics: Ampara has had a lot to prove in her relatively short life, and the word that comes to mind is ‘strong’. She has had many friends to help her along the way, but she couldn’t have persisted if she didn’t have it in her to sink her claws into life and hang on for the ride. Sure, she has bad days like anyone else, but she’s also optimistic that thinks will work out one way or another. Impatience is one of her bad qualities, and she finds it hard to wait around or always wants people to skip ahead to the point. She takes a lot on, because she has a hard time relying on others even though she might know that they’ll be there for her if she merely asks. Ampara is an independent personality, and that can work against her when she is a figurehead. She’s often frustrated by protocol and decorum, things she can’t escape, but she tries hard to make the weyr run smoothly. Ampara prefers to play things close to the chest too, and there are few that will know her truly. She doesn’t hide intentionally, but is simply cautious. As weyrwoman she will do whatever is necessary for her weyr, intent on showing that, despite young age and a certain youthful devil-may-care that sometimes pervades her attitude, whatever you can do she can do better.
History:It might seem unbelievable to those who don’t know her very well, yet not surprising at all to those who do, that Ampara was quite the troublemaker back in the day. She wasn’t one to heed authority, take advice, or be where she was supposed to be. Ampara had her own agenda and her own schedule, and that was mostly to make as much trouble at Harper Hall as she could. She had to tendency to selfishly go off and do what interested her, and bypass the menial tasks as often as she could. However, she was in for a rude awakening when she was searched. In fact, during her biggest exploit yet, she’d run off to attend a gather, stowing away with a bunch of journeyman who were going to provide entertainment. She’d been running around Kajano Hold, and of course she’d eagerly pressed forward with the rest to see the dragons, being searched by one came as a shock, especially to the flabbergasted harpers who knew she wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place.
It was intimidating being introduced to the large crush that is a weyr, and so Ampara found herself striving to be at the top in a place where being at the bottom causing trouble was hardly richly rewarded amongst peers or the upper echelon of weyr staff. Still it was her proclivity to be curious, wander, and explore. It wasn’t long before she knew the ins and outs even though initially she was afraid she might get lost down a corridor and no one might ever find her. The weyr was amazing, and even though the tasks were demanding it was a place to be brave and push forward which is perhaps exactly what she needed. Then the big day came, and Ampara impressed. It was a small clutch, unexpectedly brought to them by a sickly and dying queen, but even though the eggs were few they were large and healthy. One shone with that golden glimmer that meant queen. Ampara stood proudly, and decided it was an all or nothing moment. It panned out into being the only moment she might ever care about again for the rest of her life when she impressed Dysmeth.
Weyrling-hood reintroduced a bit more freedom, and riding queen brought with it an unexpected amount of respect that she never really got over it, a feeling that was too strange to ever be real to her. The older Dysmeth became the more responsibility she had, and in the wake of the senior queen’s unexpected departure she felt herself under even more pressure and responsibility as it seemed likely she’d take up the mantle in the wake of her fellow junior queen’s seeming inability to rise. Dysmeth flew and Ampara was senior weyrwoman.
There were a lot of things along the way that Ampara will never forget. The dual joy of impression mixed with the sadness of the young queen lamenting the passing of the older one. The murders of young weyrlings that threatened her safety and peace of mind for a long dark period before Dysmeth flew. Waking up with the knowledge that she was weyrwoman and there was no going back and the experience of being flown all jumbled together in her head. There was the appearance of a daunting, deadly virus that plagued the weyr right after she took on its leadership, robbing the weyr of even more lives. She experienced the joy of having a son, and the painful separation of her and her weyrmate. What lies ahead she doesn’t know, except that things might get worse before they get better.
Age: 6 Turns
Dragon Description: Even though Dysmeth was from a small clutch brought to Great Cliffs by a sickly queen she has turned out to be a fine example of a gold dragon. At first all dragonets have a certain ungainly charm about them, and in the eyes of their rider their first steps are as perfect and wonderful as their first flights, though they are awkward in comparison to the larger, trained dragons. Dysmeth started out like any other dragonet, but has since grown to a large size (falling at the larger end of the spectrum) and has developed great aerial grace. Of course on the ground all dragons find themselves at a disadvantage with awkward movement nearly impossible to eliminate, but in the air there is no creature more breathtaking. In the eyes of Ampara the skies are much improved with Dysmeth’s lithe form skating across the weyrbowl or cavorting in the weyrlake like a big hatchling. Of course as a large Queen this does put limitations on maneuverability, but Dysmeth does and admirable job in the air. She and Ampara do their best and train their hardest, overcoming obstacles with the best of their abilities.
Lithe is an apt description as Dysmeth is an active dragon, neither sloth nor over self-indulgence characterize Dysmeth in any way. Also while many Gold dragons are of a brighter more yellow hue Dysmeth is of a darker tone. The darker more antique gold or perhaps somewhat bronzed gold was the cause of confusion at her hatching, the egg goop had darkened and obscured the hide until the hot air of the hatching sands dried it away revealing radiant gold tones made even more apparent in the sun and also after a good oiling, making her stand out among her peers. At least she is very rarely mistaken for Tuirith even at a distance.
Dragon Personality: While some Golds tend to be vain or haughty Dysmeth is rather humble in comparison. She has her pride and knows of her prestige, but she is of a gentle, friendly disposition and even has a tendency to bespeak others of her own volition to the surprise (and no doubt delight) of many. Her tone seems to be that of her rider’s but slightly deeper with the same melodic timbre, and it sounds warm and wise somewhat beyond her few turns on Pern. However, much liked her rider one should not be deceived by benevolent and harmless appearances. They are quite alike in many respects as is often the case of dragon and rider, and despite Dysmeth’s friendly demeanor and delight at fun one should never underestimate Dysmeth’s potential.
Other Information::Her first clutch was sired by Lossoth (X’cer).
