Name: R'dan
Rank: Bronze Rider and Second son of a Lord Holder
Dragon: Voraidith
Age: 23
Fire-lizards: none
Pets: none
Description: R’dan is a physically imposing man. Standing 6’0’’ he is powerfully built with a sturdy frame, broad shoulders, and all over rippling muscle. He would be more attractive if he did not seem to always be scowling at something. He has a Roman sort of face with a square jaw, long nose, and defined cheekbones. His eyes are dark brown and he has curly black hair that falls to his shoulders and tanned skin. Usually he wears his hair in a runner’s tail.
Personality: Although not overtly cruel, R’dan is very self-serving, arrogant, and proud. He finds himself to be a very important individual and expects to be admired and respected whether he deserves it or not. It is not out of ignorance he holds these views, however. Up until now people have always treated him with respect, although mostly out either fear of his father’s wrath or out of fear of his own raging temper. Although many may not believe so due to his attitudes and actions, R’dan is extremely intelligent. He does few things without a purpose, at least in his mind. Yes, he gets into many fights and arguments, but if one were to ask why he would reply that his honor was impeded upon and he needs to defend it.
Despite living in a Weyr for nearly ten turns, he still retains some very Hold-like views when it comes to women, particularly women who are not Gold riders or other persons of great importance. Although he has a rather chivalrous notion that women are to be treated gently and protected, he believes they mostly exist to provide sexual gratification and bear children. More than anything else he enjoys the game of wooing women, and his dashing, sometimes knight-like attitude towards them has allowed him to woo many, many of them.
Unlike his father, he does not believe drudges should be abused, but believes them to be too far beneath him to be worth any more of his time than to bark an order.
Although he will defer and show respect to people of higher rank than he is, he does not really see them as superiors and thus only displays the minimum amount of respect necessary to not be reprimanded. At least…he usually does.
History: Born Riordan of Balan, he is the second son of the Lord Holder of Balan Hold, bound to Telgar Weyr. He was raised with the typical haughtiness of an aristocratic background. His father, Lord Raneil, is an overbearing, domineering, cruel man who takes sadistic joy in beating and torturing drudges for any actual or fabricated mishap, and who is well known for is exploits among the young women of the Hold. His mother, Laena, was the stereotypical timid and submissive child bride who bore her firstborn when she was fourteen and has had eight other children since of which five have survived.
Since it was his elder brother who was poised to inherit his father’s holdings, Riordan’s childhood was not filled with as much rigorous schooling and responsibility as his brother's. Many of his days were spent simply riding about the surrounding lands and hunting with his few friends. It was a shock to everyone when he was Searched at fourteen. To his father’s anger he stood at White Sands Weyr and Impressed Bronze Voraidith. Shortly afterward he settled into Telgar Weyr.
While at Telgar he gained a reputation for being quite the womanizer both within the Weyr and at the Hold, perpetuating the long-held notion that all dragonriders are overly promiscuous. He has fathered several children by many different women, mostly Hold girls, but had no relationship with any of them and doesn’t even know any of their names. Although Voraidith has flown four different greens, he has never wanted any for a weyrmate, preferring, like most bronzes, golds. He has never caught a gold, but twice was the second contender left flying to the junior queen at Telgar.
Besides a reputation as a womanizer, R’dan also is known to love his drink and love a fistfight or duel. Recently, he accidentally killed a non landholding man at a tavern in Balan when he shoved the man so hard into the corner of a table he cracked open his skull. Because of his father’s influence and the fact the dead man was a nobody R’dan escaped the incident with no official punishment. It has been made clear both directly and indirectly from both Weyr and Hold that he is no longer wanted around, so he now seeks to transfer to Great Cliffs Weyr.
Age: 9
Dragon Description: Large and powerful, Voraidith was the third largest bronze in his home Weyr, though what few there were were all nearly equal in size. His shimmering hide is so deep a bronze it appears black in all but the brightest lighting. Vainly proud, he moves with exceptional grace and keeps his neck arched in a royal demeanor much of the time. Voraidith always seems to be putting on a show and rarely is caught opening sunbathing or playing.
Dragon Personality: Much like his bonded, Voraidith has a tendency to be haughty and arrogant. He does not interact much with any dragons 'lower' than browns, with the expection of some greens he finds interesting. Not particularly social or friendly he tends to keep to himself.
