Appearance: Kemila is a petite young woman, standing at only five feet tall. She has a slender build with curves proportionate to her height. Her features are delicate, and she is often mistaken for being younger than she is. She has a darker olive complexion. Her hair is black, straight, and worn short for convenience. She rarely lets it get longer than shoulder length. Kemila's eyes are a steely gray framed by long lashes. She favors darker clothing, and is often seen in her riding clothes.
Personality: Kemila is quiet, but she is definitely not shy. She simply prefers to keep her thoughts to herself, and she only speaks if she has something truly important to say. She is a calm person who gets extremely annoyed by others who are too cheerful or hyper. Kemila is a cynic. Most would call her a pessimist, but she considers herself a realist. She knows better than to set herself up for disappointment.
Kemila is the kind of person who is always looking out for number one. She is extremely picky in her choice of friends, and it takes a lot to impress her. If you do manage to win her over, however, she can be fiercely loyal. As for romance, she views it mostly as a waste of time, and there hasn't been a man yet who can win her heart.
History: Kemila was born in Port Hope. Her parents were not married. Her father, Kereld, was a man who made his living on gambling. Put simply, he was a player, and Kemila's mother was one of his many lovers. She was raised in her father's household and treated something like a prized pet. She was spoiled as a child and had everything she could want.
As a young child, Kereld taught his daughter simple card games and took her to see runner races. As she grew, he showed her more gambling tricks, and soon she was on the path to becoming a successful gambler herself. By the age of sixteen, she had a good amount of marks to her own name. She planned to follow in her father's footsteps, gambling and leading the good life.
Then, a Search rider visited Port Hope and discovered Kemila. When she was asked to become a candidate, she immediately accepted. She bid her father goodbye and went to the Weyr.
((Note: I couldn't really tell if Port Hope had people living in it or not, so I can change her birthplace to Kajano Hold if need be. Also, I might bring in Kereld as an NPC character.))

In fact there should be some people kicking around as Adopt-mes ... but we haven't gotten around to adding them in yet. Since Kemila was born there she would know that until recently it was called Port Shadow and was a stronghold of the Syndicate. There was even the beginnings of a Syndicate armada and a recruiting station so no doubt her father and mother had to deal with many unsavory people roaming the streets. For Turns it was an unpleasant port and few true traders would go there. However, a small band of people, inspired by the Guardians of the Weyr, rose up and began to fight the Syndicate. When the Leader and the majority of the Syndicate were driven away by the Guardians, the rebels of Shadow Port gained allies and were finally victorious, casting most of the Syndicate from the port's territory. The name was changed a little less than a Turn ago when the Guardians and the people helping them were finally convinced the Syndicate was not coming back. There are still a few lingering there who are loyal to the Syndicate but they are the outlaws now that they should be.
