Name: J'raya
Nickname/Alias: 'raya. Rai. Dumbass (thanks, Tsunade)
Age: 41
Rank: Bronze rider (Wingleader/Wingsecond/etc if need be)
Dragon: Bronze Gamath
Fire-lizards: Green Muse
Pets: N/A
Description: The first impression one gets of J'raya is intimidating. Almost unnaturally tall, just bordering right on 6'5, his entire appearance is rugged, and, well, sharp-edged; it makes him appear older and more mature than his age suggests. Broad-shouldered, broad-chested and just broad-planed in general, his time as a rider has helped him fill out into his body, and adds to the cat-like air of suppressed energy and power about him.
Adding to the formidableness is the presence of the scars marring his light-brown skin, in particular, the scarring winding along his right cheekbone, souvenir of a run-in with Thread. His stride is surprisingly contrary to his size; he walks with long limbs and languid steps, as if he is a large, graceful feline. J'raya's facial features are like the rest of him - sharp cut and rugged. High cheekbones, strong jaw, bony face; he is not prettily handsome, but there is an unconventional masculinity about him that one can't help but be drawn in by.
To add to his odd appearance is the contrast of hair and eyes. Originally black, no one knows why J'raya's hair went white, only that it did so at the young age of fourteen, and though it still retains a stray black streak here and there, it is now predominantly white as he's grown older. A possible genetic defect, perhaps, as some people do grey earlier. Unfortunately, he doesn't know if it's an inherited gene, as he has been an orphan since before he can acutely remember. It is messy, almost spiky, framing his face and lending a softer boyishness to his otherwise sharp-cut appearance. Coupled with an open-hearted, mischievous smile, J'raya does not seem to be one who has suffered in any way, physically or mentally. Even if one looks into his eyes for longer than a second, they will be hardpressed to see more than a haunting of heartache and grief, brought on by the hardships one suffers as a dragonrider watching family and friends, loved ones, be lost to Thread.
Most captivating on this bronze rider though are his eyes. Almond-shaped, they are very dark, almost black, and rather sensual. And doesn't he know it. J'raya knows sharding well what he can do to women with his gaze; they tell more about him than anything else would on first impression. Always sparkling with warmth and mischief; he's the kind of person who one thinks is always up to some form of trickery or play, yet at the same time, the warmth hints at the truly gentle, loving, passionate man J'raya is under the rider and the 'big kid' appeal.
Personality:J'raya is, at heart, a prankster and a mischief-maker. Always smiling that wicked, suggestive grin, he is what he is, and nothing will change that - loud, cheerful, boisterous and optimistic to a fault. Trickster, mischievous, playful; he's always up to something.
Oddly though, nothing about J'raya is a lie. From the moment you meet him, his exuberant and cheerful nature shines through. As said before, he is an optimist by nature, and never gives up no matter what life throws at him – and life has thrown quite a bit at him in the form of intense heartache, without giving "a wher's ass for his poor, young brain", as he'll often jokingly say.
He’ll never let go of any ambition or desire until he’s seen it through; which can make life rather interesting, as his stubbornness often leads him to be a tad thick headed…and it doesn’t matter how many times he’s knocked on his behind, he’ll keep on trying until he gets what he wants – even if it breaks his body, mind or heart in the process.
He is hardly ever in a bad mood. One will know when he is in a bad mood however, as he goes very quiet and somber. On the whole though, he's never down for long, unless the reason for his depression involves a certain blonde queenrider. He is generally high-spirited though, with a sincere and mischievous nature that is totally unrepentant for any mischief or chaos he might cause. It makes him a man that is extremely easy to befriend and look to, as he's always trying to see the good side of things, and tries to understand people's motives as best he can, and empathise with them.
J'raya has an exceptionally vivid imagination and loves to sit in the middle of a circle and recall tales for the children to hear – or even tales that he makes up on his own. As such, he is also a master fibber, and will make up the most outrageous and sometimes rather obscene excuses to get out of a tight spot. Along with his sincere openness and imaginative nature, J'raya is also quite a charmer when he wants to be – smooth tongued and quick thinking with his words. He's got no issues with flirting with whoever he likes, and provided there's no children around, will give loose rein to what is also a rather perverted, dirty sense of humour, though he often lets loose just to irritate his best friend and weyrmate, knowing that as a Masterhealer, she can no longer go off her rocker at him for something in public. Or not often, anyway.
For all that though, J'raya still has his darker side. He knows how to manipulate a person into getting what he wants, and he knows just how to be sensual if need be. Under the light hearted gallantry and mischief, he is in fact a deeply passionate, devoted person. Unfortunately, this leads him to heartache more often than not, as though he knows it's stupid to center all his devotion on one particular woman, he can't just put a lid on it, despite how much it hurts. He just sits back, hoping one day, if he stays patient, it will turn out right for him. He's a strong guy, or so he claims, and won't let anything beat him down.
History:Orphaned from a young age (though he is aware that his father was a brown rider who showed little interest in him anyway prior to his death), Jiraya was raised in Igen Weyr alongside his best friend, Tsunade. From a young age, he proved to be a rebellious little mischief maker, happily dragging her into his plots and schemes, and with no qualms as to what chaos he caused. Unfortunately, he also knew how to get out of trouble, and as a result, often got away with blue murder with just a sweet smile and a cute pout. He wasn't completely infallible though, for there was one person who saw through his mischief, and had no qualms with whacking him upside the head when the need called. Well, two, but as much as he loves his foster mother, she's meant to have done that, so it doesn't count.
J'raya was never sure when exactly he fell in love with his best friend, perhaps he always did love her, but as a child, the idea of love inspires fear like the myth of cooties does. He just knew, and knows, that he loved and loves her, even when the rift was caused with her subsequent failure to Impress and his Impression to bronze Gamath. He let her be, though he never stopped loving her, and when she returned to the Weyr later on, reinitiated their old friendship, though it was tense for a long time. He would endure more heartache as a result of this though, for even as he began to garner the courage to tell Tsunade he loved her, she met another rider, and became involved with him.
His bond with her would become stronger than ever though, with the shock death of her brother and later, her lover at the time. J'raya would also become sick, leaving him with a huskier voice than he once had, though he survived and went on to become a rock once again for his distraught Tsunade. Their relationship eventually went to a new level - possibly because he finally found the guts to make it clearer to her how he felt - and at some point, they became weyrmates.
J'raya was distraught when she left the Weyr again to pursue her studies after her third miscarriage, but in his way, he stuck by her, waiting for her to come home. She did, and at some point, their son was born, though the bronzer was certain and is still certain he's lost twenty Turns off his life with the horror she put him through during the pregnancy and labour. Still, when Minato was born, J'raya couldn't help falling in love with the little boy who would turn out to look so much like him, and did his best to keep an eye on Minato between his duties, though it became a little harder when he was promoted to Wingleadership at age thirty.
Still, he made himself step up to the plate, just as Tsunade had with her ambition to become a Masterhealer, and became a somewhat principled Wingleader, quick-thinking but mostly loved for his empathic attitude and his attempts to be nothing if not accomodating to his wingriders, within realism. When he heard the rumours about the new Weyr and it's lack of riders, he considered the idea of transferring, though only settled on it with Tsunade's encouragement and the promise to stick by him. With that, he transferred not long after one of his favoured Wingseconds and protege of sorts, W'lian did, for White Sands, with Tsunade and Minato, to Great Cliffs Weyr.
Age: 28
Dragon/Wher/Fire-lizard Description: At a sound 39.4 feet, Gamath is a big boy. Like his rider, he is broad-shouldered, deep chested, and just plain takes up a lot of space. His wings are large and well proportioned to carry his build high, and his head is wide-cheeked and distinctly roman-nosed in shape, however, his back end seems a bit out of proportion, with his legs and tail being longer than the rest of him.
A light, almost tan bronze colour all over, he has a large store of endurance due to his strength and the deepness of his frame, however, he does sacrifice his agility for this endurance, as evidenced by several silvery-grey scars over his hide, particularly along his shoulder - acquired the same time as J'raya's facial scars were.
Dragon Personality: When he actually does open his mouth, Gamath is, to sum it up, a smart ass. He'll speak his mind, consequences be sharded, and even then, he'll sit back and snicker at the reaction of his quarry if they get all flustered and mad at him. It's not to say he's stupid though; he's actually a lot sharper-minded than he pretends to be. It's as if he plays lazy and blunt just to irritate others. He particularly likes annoying females, why, no one knows, though J'raya's influence probably has something to do with it.
With most, Gamath maintains a polite emotional distance, though his devotion to his rider is unwavering. He has been J'raya's comfort during the bronze rider's most heart-wrenching moments. Towards Minato, he is gentle and patient, knowing the boy brings his rider joy and tenderness. Towards Tsunade, he is gentler than most, and often seeks her touch out more than anyone else's, except J'raya's.
Age: 28
Dragon/Wher/Fire-lizard Description: Small, dainty and almost gaunt, Muse's appearance is a contradiction to her nature. She is rather lean, and often looks a tad out of proportion as a result. A light leafy green, she is easily noticeable in a fair, when she bothers leaving J'raya's side to participate in a fair of course.
Dragon Personality: A typical green, Muse lives up to her name. She is an inquisitive sort, always getting into things, is flirty and affectionate and extremely protective of her owner. She lives up to her name quite well and tends to be quite the jealous type, savaging just about anybody that gets too friendly with J'raya, except for Tsunade, though it's only because she's known the woman for years.
Other Information:: Weyrmate to Masterhealer Tsunade. Father of Minato.
