((This was finished a while back, but I just deleted the WIP note. I think it'll get noticed now. ^^))
Name: Kelynes (K'ynes -pronounced without a pause.)
Age: 15
Rank: Candidate/Apprentice DragonHealer
Dragon: N/a
Fire-lizards: N/a
Pets: N/a
Description:
Kelynes is a dark looking kid. His skin is a warm bronzey-brown-olive that is somewhat unnusual. He has dark hair covering his arms and legs, and some of the upper portions of his chest, and has a mop of oily black hair sitting atop his head. In order to keep his eternally oily locks out of his face, he tends to use softened wax to hold it up and back. It's not very long, but it's long enough to be a pain, and he doesn't bother with hair cuts very often.
He's a bit scrawny looking, his body not yet fully developed. His limbs aren't skinny or anything, but his waist is especially slender at this time in his life. Upon closer inspection he's well muscled, but not to the point where he might hold his own in a tavern fight. Not that he's really old enough for such a thing. In spite of not yet being filled out, it does seem like he's very nearly reached his full height at 5'8".
Kelynes has dark, broody features that sit large and bold on his face. His eyes are large with droopy eyelids, always looking out from a woodsy brown that somehow seems more brown than his skin. His nose is large and slightly hooked, with large nostrils. Unlike the hair on top his head, he does trim his nose-hair. It grows rather uncontrollably. Every now and then, he'll forget and a few hairs can be seen. His lips are large, heavy and pouty. Behind his lips are large, straight, slightly yellowed teeth.
Kelynes looks to be a rather serious fellow, often regarding life with a sense of puzzlement.
QuickDesc
Height: 5'8"
Weight: Average
Hair: Black, oily, short
Eyes: brown, woodsy
Skin: Dark olive (think India)
Personality:
Kelynes is a friendly enough young man, if a bit quiet. He's an extremely careful person, precise with both his words and his actions. He firmly believes in order, and is comforted by it. Many people get the feeling that he isn't as happy and fun-loving as other gentlemen his age, but this is not the case. He's simply quieter about it. He's the guy who when the other guys decide to have a wrestling match ends up "moderating." His mannerisms are somehow both refined and rough. He has a certain amount of sarcasm in his every day conversations, giving him a sharp edge if you care to talk to him.
History:
Born to two rather busy Master Healers, Kelynes was raised by all of Healer Hall. He swears he saw the Master Healer of Pern more often than he saw his own two parents who were often traveling elsewhere. From a young age, he knew he was destined to be a Healer of some sort. How could he not? It was in his blood. At the age of 11, after a very regular young childhood in the Hall, he was apprenticed officially. He proved to be rather good at the general studies, and before long, he advanced to the next level of his apprenticeship.
It was here where he ran into problems. He began to treat others for simple wounds and headcolds. Almost all of his patients complained that he had been sarcastic and mean about their condition. He was chastised, and he managed to tone it down. Unfortunately, he never did manage to feel comfortable with human patients. When, at 14, a fire-lizard was brought in with a sprained wing, however, Kelynes found his true calling. Working with the creature, he found he could even be properly kind and polite to the owner of the fire-lizard. It dawned on him that it likely had to do with his respect for dragonkind and their kin, while he didn't have much faith in humans.
Unfortunately for him, his parents were not pleased with the idea of "Their son, Kelynes, the dragonhealer." It was a respectable enough job, sure, but he was to follow in their footsteps exactly, thank you very much. The only thing that would deter them were if he was actually Searched to ride a dragon. Really, they would prefer that he wasn't Searched, but with his father being Weyrbred and all it just seemed logical. Later that same turn, he was Searched.
At Great Cliffs Weyr, he immediately changed his status from Healer to DragonHealer, which pleased him greatly. He's since been working towards walking the tables as a Journeyman, and studying as a Candidate should.
