"Now the Ruathan woke to nature’s call and stumbled towards a tree,
Behind a bush, he lifts his kilts and gawks at what he sees
And in a startled voice he says to what’s before his eyes
“O, lad I don’t know where you been but I see you won first prize!”
"
Minato sighed, letting his breath gust out to whip his hair about his face before it was lost in the breeze blowing on the Rim. If anybody asked where he'd learnt drinking songs; he'd happily blame it on his sire. If that failed, well...he guessed there was Igen.
He missed Igen, just a little. He wasn't exactly the most sociable boy on first glance, but he'd grown used to having quite a number of those his age around him, Candidates or not, liked or not, and going from that to this quieter, more...almost exclusive lifestyle did get under his skin a bit at times.
Just now and again, it'd be nice to have someone closer to his age to bother and joke and complain and share chores with...someone that wasn't wrapped up in other duties other than those of Candidacy, someone who wasn't busy or older. Sure, his father was good to talk to, and his mother always had a solution when he complained to her, but they were busy, and like he was with J'zeni despite their close enough ages, Minato was reluctant to intrude in on those with busy duties.
Especially not with issues as childish as being lonely or bored.
Truthfully, he was a little. It was why he was able to apply himself to studiously to his lessons and chores, why he'd chosen to climb the Rim once his work was done. But still...eh. There was also the fact that he did miss his best friend, just a little. Fugaku had been a surly sort at times, but the other weyrbrat and his interest in weaponscrafting had been what had spiked Minato's own interest, though he hadn't exactly mentioned it to J'zeni or anyone else.
He had chosen to accompany his parents, though. He knew that, and he took responsibility for it like he did everything else. And under his more pragmatic nature, the youthful warmth and optimism that had earned him the playful nickname of Flash still burned, and told him it would so be worth it in the end.
"Yes, yes, I know, I'm being a tosser," he grumbled playfully as he sat up, eyeing the green firelizard that had been resting on his stomach moments before when he had been laying, enjoying the warmth with his head against the stone. It was surprisingly warm up here, relaxing, and he enjoyed the view. Not like Igen Weyr, where the heat kept all but the hardiest and the most foolish off the Rim at this time of day.
As for Muse, well, he couldn't tell if she was annoyed that he'd moved, or that he was moping, or that she had to share with Memnon and Naru. His parent's firelizards were odd like that, and a little annoying...they'd somehow taken it into their little heads that he needed constant following from the moment he'd learnt to walk...something, according to Tsunade, he only had himself to blame for.
"Don't any of you have something better to do? Doesn't Father or Mama need you?" he said, eyeing them shrewdly one by one, not caring if anyone saw him arguing with firelizards like they were humans. He'd grown up with them, so it was hard not to.
It was probably because he'd grown up with them that he knew their ulterior motives off by heart, too. Muse was here because if she didn't get to henpeck someone at least once a day, she got freaky-humoured. And if she couldn't bother J'raya, she bothered Tsunade. And if she couldn't bother Tsunade, she bothered Memnon and Naru. And when they took off, she followed, chattering her head off scoldingly like she had been doing when the flitts had appeared, obviously seeking some kind of protection from her. And then they'd been distracted by him climbing the Rim, and had decided he needed an escort.
And then, conveniently, they'd found that this place he'd climbed to was so lovely and warm and perfect for lazy. Daft creatures. And they only proved it more so with their responses to his question - Naru rolled over next to Minato to sun his belly, happy to ignore the boy. Memnon was more obliging, lifting his chin and chirruping imperiously before Muse decided he needed another round of 'henpecking spouse game', and promptly proceeded to terrorise the bronze firelizard until he took to the sky, fluttering above the Rim and winking in and out of between...though whether it was to get away or annoy the green more, Minato didn't know.
