(and this time, he's not so terribly depressing! He's ugly and suffers from an injury, but dammit, he's not "beaten into submission" depressing )
Name: Rivos
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Rank: Drudge (Infirmary)
Appearance: Standing at about six feet flat, Rivos is both ugly and intimidating. A wide, barrel-shaped chest, very broad shoulders, and deep, thick musculature give the appearance of one with experience in the Smithcraft. He was never very pretty to begin with - from his short, blunt nose, to his rough and heavily calloused skin, to his scraggly, wiry black hair that is often greasy, Rivos might as well have been hit with the ugly stick, so to speak. Not to mention that his body is heavily ridden with scars and injuries from an earlier accident: his nose has a notch where the tip once was, his hands still look freshly burnt at times (though it's really just the intensity of the scars), a missing pinky digit on his left hand, and a persistent limp on his left foot, which came from a broken ankle healing improperly.
Personality: Rivos, despite all that goes against him (his ugliness and the persistent pains in his hands and foot that often keep him from doing much more than he does in his work), finds himself looking forward to the future; there is a driving force of hope behind this young man. He is also very adoring of the department he works for; secretly, he adores K'ivan and his various apprentices for accepting someone like him into their ranks, even if he is just merely a drudge. He is nice and hard working, and sometimes has a habit of overworking himself either because he wants to show off or he wants to outright prove his usefulness to everyone. Give him a task, and he'll probably attempt to complete double of what you asked of him. There is an underlying sense of wanting to help heal people, to give them the treatment that wasn't given to him in time! And maybe, just maybe, he could be just like K'ivan - dragon-Impression included! Sure, dragons aren't supposed to Impress to people with anything that could keep them from fighting thread efficiently, which should count out both him and the Apprentice Zhaymaius; but one can dream, right?
History: Born into a poor family in a cothold beholden to Kajano, Rivos was, unfortunately, the butt of many jokes due to his extreme ugliness. He often found himself working twice as hard as a child so that he could still make a good impression on people - he strove for perfection, and desired to be better than he was. He entered the Smithcraft at the youngest age possible. However, this wasn't going to last long. Easily willing to accept long hours of work without caring about himself got him into trouble one night, as his body became weak and weary, he twisted and snapped his ankle while turning back to his work after retrieving a piece of metal that he needed. This, in turn, caused him to trip, sending him headlong towards the fire-heated metal, and while swinging out to try and catch himself, his forearms and hands instead caught the burning metal. The burning ended up being so severe, that when he was found a few hours later (he had been working alone, unfortunately), that it was decided that one of his smaller fingers had to be amputated for fear of gangrene. His ankle was so damaged and he was found so long after the fact that his ankle, even with consistent treatment, could only heal partially. After healing from this incident, he knew that he couldn't do much in the way of usefulness; thus forcing him to mere drudgework. His body, at the moment, couldn't handle anything beyond the most menial of tasks. He was moved to Great Cliffs Weyr for his drudgework, since he would, theoretically, have much easier access to an in-house healer. His over-the-top work ethic didn't go unnoticed there - he was often times scolded for doing too much with his bad hands and foot. Eventually, however, it brought praise, and even allowed him to do work with a great man when he was to be transferred to the infirmary along with one of his cohorts, Adite.
